Honeycomb Quilting with Westalee Design Templates

A Block as Sweet as Honey!

The Honeycomb template is designed to work in a circular rotation around the center of a quilting block to create an intricate and flowing shape. Like many of the templates from Westalee Design, the Honeycomb template works with a rotating pin that centers it and allows you to easily keep your design on track. Pairing the template with the Crosshair Square you can create a wide variety of different looks to control how much overlap and intricacy you want out of the template and how many rotations you want to make.

In designing the Honeycomb template, Leonie intended for it to be used in a multitude of different ways. Because the stitching comes together at multiple places on the template you can easily sew only a part of it to create even more looks and patterns.

This highlighted pattern comes free with the purchase of the template and teaches us to explore the full range of the template by sewing the entire length for a full 12 rotates around a circle. For the most part, the sewing pattern is a simple one that just requires a bit of patience to navigate the wavy edges of the template. With the inner Honeycomb complete you can see how Leonie builds out a background of concentric circles using the full range of her Circles on Quilts template sets. Finally, she adds in a series of straight parallel lines to create a contrasting border to the inner stitching of the quilt block.

The best part of this project is that you can get it for free! All you need to do is buy your very own Honeycomb Template from your local dealer (visit our Find a Retailer page to find one near you).
