About The Instructor
My involvement and love of fabric, fibers and sewing began at an early age when I was enrolled in a Saturday morning class and learned to sew an apron. Soon after that, I learned how to construct more involved garments!
My college major was Fashion Design at Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, WI, followed by a brief career as a garment pattern maker and sample sewer for two knitwear firms in Milwaukee.
When the industry slowed, I got my start with the Singer Company by teaching sewing and tailoring, followed by machine sales and store management.
After Singer and a several years with Jo Ann Fabrics, I discovered my passion was turning from garment sewing to Quilting in the early 1990’s. In 2004, the raffle quilt which I designed based on a folk art quilt made circa 1840 and machine quilted by a talented friend, won a Blue Ribbon Group Quilt category at the Paducah, AQS show. This inspired me to learn to quilt by machine rather than my hand.
For 12 years, I enjoyed working at a local family owned sewing machine shop, Sew ‘N Save (now closed). The shop specialties were embroidery and quilting and we formed many user clubs and enthusiast groups. I last worked for Arrow Sewing Cabinets in Delavan, WI as the Account Executive, as my background with sewing machines allowed me to promote and expand the dealer network. I have retired from business as of 2017 and now find great satisfaction in creating my own quilts and finishing them with using the Westalee Rulers on my sit down sewing machines.
Why Westalee Design Templates: “The Westalee Template System gives me the accuracy and precision that I have been trying to achieve in my Free Motion Quilting for years, stitching lines that are truly straight and circles that are round! I am so excited and confident about quilting with the Template System that I decided to share the joy with other quilters!”
